EDITORIAL ARCHIVE: DRIVE

The highway for me will always be freedom. This is my own personal slant, because of my own history with the thing, but I suspect the same is true for many of you. Like a generic country tune. The comfort of constant movement, humming its perfect song, the endless canvas of light and color rolling, the smell of fields after a rain, the shadow of my van racing along beside me, changing size and shape as hills come and go. Rainbows and cattle and billboards and irrigation ditches. Silos, corn rows, smokestacks. Dirt roads snaking off into the distance. I stop for some beef jerkey and a Dr. Pepper. I drive on.

These images were all made with a Leica M6 and one 35mm lens on sporadic drives through the American west, and most were taken through the window of a Volkswagen Van.
